Christopher Chaos is a teenage mad scientist. Well, “mad” may be putting it a bit strongly. Suffice it to say he doesn’t think like most people. Unfortunately, for all his brilliance, Christopher has a hard time relating to his peers, and he’s hurt a lot of people with his good intentions.
Things appear to be looking up when Christopher meets a cute new boy at his school. Unfortunately, he turns out to be a monster in disguise. This revelation drags Christopher into a world of heroes, monsters, and the sinister cult out to kill them all… and now, him!
Christopher Chaos reminds me of a lot of good comics. The irony is that is is simultaneously something original and new that leaves me, much like the title protagonist, scrambling for a point of reference, as my mind racing a mile a minute trying to keep up with him. This book is a rush, plain and simple.
I see elements of the absurdity of Doom Patrol in Tate Brombal’s story. I see the influence of Mike Allred’s Madman in Isaac Goodhart’s art. And there’s a fair bit of Rick Riordan in James Tynion IV’s concept of a teenager who doesn’t fit in coming to terms with their fantastic powers in a world of gods and monsters.
Make what comparisons you will. Most of all, I see a great comic that will appeal to anyone who ever felt a little different, be it because of their orientation, their interests or because they’re neurodivergent. The world has been waiting for a hero like Christopher Chaos for some time and I can’t wait to see what he does next!

The Oddly Pedestrian Life Of Christopher Chaos #1 arrives in stores on June 28th!
